La Batanga

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 oz Arrogante Anejo Tequila
  • 12 oz Mexican Cola
  • 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 Pinch of Kosher Salt
  • Garnish: Several Lime Slices
  • PREPARATION:

    Prepare a tall Collins glass by placing a pinch of kosher salt on the bottom of the glass and filling it with large chunks of ice.

    Add the freshly squeezed lime juice and Arrogante Anejo tequila. Top the glass off with Mexican Cola and stir briefly. If desired, garnish the drink with several slices of lime.

    While the regular Coca-Cola can be used instead of Mexican Cola in this recipe, the latter is preferable. Mexican Cola is generally credited to have more authentic, natural flavor than its American counterpart. Mexican Coke uses real cane sugar (instead of the Coke in the USA, which uses high-fructose corn syrup), and is bottled in small glass bottles.

    Serve with a straw.

La Batanga is a very popular drink in Mexico; it is similar to Cuba Libre cocktail but prepared with tequila instead of rum. The key to deliciousness is to use the authentic Mexican Cola and to add a small pinch of salt that accentuates the flavors.
